Curitiba is a cultural and business center, with a variety of museums, historic buildings, and many different events throughout the year. Moreover, it is a model of nature preservation and urban planning with beautiful touristic spots as the Botanical Garden, Barigui Park, Opera de Arame, among many others.

Curitiba is the capital of Paraná state, a modern city with one of the best life quality standards in Brazil. It has a population of 1.7 million, which was heavily influenced by European immigrants and is culturally diverse. Curitiba is famous for its urbanistic innovations, which intended to stop the city from uncontrolled development. The city has a temperate maritime climate, with average temperatures around 11°C during winter but going below 2°C on the coldest days. It is not uncommon, however, to have short heat waves during winter, and within the same day it can be cold, hot, rainy, and windy.

Using common sense will generally make you safer while walking around town - do not wear very expensive jewelry/valuables, keep your electronics (cameras, laptops, etc) out of sight, and so on.
